The structural properties of composites are mainly obtained from the reinforcement of fibers.In the composite, the fiber, through the matrix resin, remains in place, resulting in high tensile strength, enhancing the properties of the final component, such as strength and stiffness, while minimizing the weight of the finished component.The fiber properties are determined by the fiber manufacturing process and are protected during the manufacture of the resin matrix suitable for the chemical composition of the fiber  and the bonding of the coated chemical fiber .The glass fiber  The vast majority of all fibers used in the composite industry are glass.Fiberglass is the oldest and by far the most common reinforcement used in most end-market applications (the aerospace industry is a notable exception) to replace heavier metal parts.Fiberglass weighs more than the second most common reinforcement, carbon fiber, and is not stiff, but more impact resistant, and has a greater elongation to break.This depends on the type of glass, the diameter of single filaments, the chemical and fiber forms of the coating, and the wide range of properties and properties that can be achieved.In glass fiber production, the raw material is melted and pulled into fine and highly abrasive wire with a diameter range of 3.5 to 24 microns.Silica sand is the initial ingredient, typically accounting for more than 50% of the weight of glass fiber.Metal oxides and other components added to silica and treated differently can be customized for specific applications.The filament is supplied in bundles called strands.One strand is a collection of continuous glass threads.Generally roving refers to untwisted silk, packed as on a large reel.A single roving is composed of a continuous strand of strands of glass fiber.Multiple roving contains long, but not fully continuous strands, which add or remove interlacing arrangements during winding.Yarn is formed by a collection of twisted strands.
